The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has approved the adoption of Wi-Fi 7 and subsequent Wi-Fi generations within the 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz). In a statement, the regulator said the approval aligns with parameters earlier set for Wi-Fi 6E and marks a major step forward in advancing the country’s digital connectivity.
According to PTA, the move places Pakistan among the early adopters of Wi-Fi 7 in the Asia-Pacific region. The development is expected to deliver faster, more reliable connectivity across multiple sectors, strengthening Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda.
Wi-Fi 7 promises ultra-high data rates, lower latency, and robust reliability. The technology is designed to power advanced applications such as 8K streaming, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and industrial automation. By easing congestion in legacy spectrum bands, Wi-Fi 7 is also expected to enhance user experience and support next-generation digital services.
The regulator further highlighted that adopting Wi-Fi 7 would help reduce broadband delivery costs while strengthening connectivity for households, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), campuses, healthcare facilities, and smart cities. Improved digital infrastructure is expected to drive innovation, expand access to essential services, and boost overall productivity.
PTA emphasized that the milestone reflects its commitment to bridging the digital divide, enhancing network resilience, and fostering Pakistan’s inclusive digital economy. The authority reiterated its pledge to continue developing policies and regulations that encourage advanced technology adoption and support the country’s long-term digital growth.

if Government censorship would somehow interfere with wifi 7 standard then it would only work on Mars cuz zero censorship only exists there.
The angry man is absolutely right. What is the point of all this technology if we are not even allowed to think and speak freely? What difference does it make to have Wi-Fi 7 in just a few buildings in Islamabad? This government is faking everything—these kinds of announcements only serve to create a false sense of progress. We cannot even protect our people from floods or safeguard our food from destruction, yet we call ourselves an advanced nuclear power. But what real purpose does it serve for us?

This is not philosophical or political discussion. This article is about ratification of a wireless communication standard. Governemt cencorship (as he is implying) doesn’t have any affect on the wifi 7 devices. if that were the case then people in china and tens of other countries won’t have wifi 7 routers working.

I already did. Firewall and censorship measures choke internet whether we use wifi 7 or 420. Since your internet even at 4g is being affected by hurdles placed by the govt itself.
I also highlighted another article from this very platform highlighting how internet speed is being choked by such measures. Highest speed was in federal capital operating at 40% of its optimal speed.

Have you ever seen markings of FCC, EU. & UK on electronic devices? Similarly when PTA officially approves wifi 7 standard that means that like those other countries PTA has tested it for local use and officially approved. Cuz wifi 7 cards, then get an official PTA sticker on it.
I once saw a WiFi chip module in Linus video, which had a PTA sticker on it and was surprising for me. That bit of snipped also made it to local Pakistani FB and reddit gaming tech groups.
That’s what will happen to wifi, which is an official PTA seal of approval to all the legally imported wifi 7 stuff
PTA is not capable like FCC. And also no need of PTA when international organization like ITU, IETF etc are available.

all im saying is that when they officially approve then all legal imports have the PTA sticker on them.
legal approval means that PTA checks whether the required bands are free and available to use for that particular use case locally. if they are, then PTA sticker can be applied.

The only thing ookla proved when people connect to their servers from Pakistan was how Spectrum starved the country is, when it comes to wireless broadband. Ookla only shows the sooner the spectrum Auction happens the better.
You’ll reach wrong conclusions from Ookla speedtest results if you don’t have adequate knowledge of how speedtest to ookla servers works and what they check.
Ookla showed how even at the peak and highest service possible , in Federal capital the speed was 40% compared to what it used to be which is 22 mbps. It used to be much higher . The article was published here btw. Bit of irony there.

wireless internet users in pakistan are increasing by about 20% annually. but the Spectrum hasn’t increased for last 5-6 years. So ookla shows how when 1000 people are using the same Highway which previously was used by 100 people congestion happens and overall speed drops. This is not rocket science. This exactly what you Ookla highlights. Pakistan needs to widen the internet highways aka Auction the spectrum. its that simple
They can increase but the services also increased and increased faster. But the quality of internet services went down faster.
Why is that ? Govt itself admitted it. The users increased yes but service providers increased as well. Despite that internet quality service went down faster.
