Internet users across Pakistan experienced a sharp slowdown late Tuesday, with many struggling to access popular websites or facing repeated timeouts. Outage trackers also recorded a surge in complaints from customers of multiple service providers.
In an official statement, Nayatel confirmed that the disruption stemmed from a fault at one of its upstream providers. The company assured users that engineers were working on a fix and set an estimated restoration time of 1:15 a.m.
The slowdown comes at a time when Pakistan’s connectivity remains under pressure due to multiple undersea cable cuts earlier this month. The damage, reported in the Red Sea, forced traffic onto longer alternative routes, resulting in higher latency and slower speeds for Pakistan and neighboring countries.
Industry experts and monitoring groups have identified the affected systems as including SMW4 and IMEWE, two critical cables in the Asia-Europe corridor. Officials have already cautioned that repairs may take four to five weeks, raising the likelihood of recurring bottlenecks during peak hours even when local networks remain stable.
For those currently affected, live outage dashboards such as Downdetector can provide real-time status updates. Some users may find temporary relief by switching to alternative DNS settings, connecting through VPN servers closer to Europe, or using mobile data. However, specialists stress that these measures offer only limited improvement until full upstream capacity is restored.

If that is true then VPN and mobile data should be slow as well. Why isn’t that the case ? Only the ip address changes but the service provider is still the same

Mobile data is very very slow now… it might not in some ares like yours but in many areas including ours it is almost dead
I have noticed that
streaming from Tiktok, Youtube, Twitch and Kick worked ok and generally my work website was also fine. but for the Science I checked a non Kosher website which was really struggling.
but playing multiplayers games clearly shows how bad the lag spikes are. switching to mobile data worked a bit better from Multiplayer games for me. (which is usually opposite due to higher lag on wireless in internet)
You recently reported that UAE is also facing slowdowns due to same cable cut.
that only means one thing. we need to lay down some major cables to Europe and China via land as redundancy and accelerate the construction of Internet IXPs. ideally done before 5g Spectrum Auction

Vyke calls were working for me as normal
Zoom meetings and Google meets was also fine
So were the torrents; from TPB , EZTV and Stremio it gave me full speeds provided torrent seeds were good

I have mentioned what was slow. the multiplayer games were a mess.
rest of the sites i use 90% of the times daily. i didn’t notice anything out of ordinary.
streamed twitch and kick by forcing them to 1080p60fps. it never buffered

Internet outage is deliberately brought to us. So that Protest situation in Kashmir is kept hidden from us.
It must be installation of new fw hardware that suddenly slowed everything down or there are additional keywords for fw to filter that make it slow on existing hardware because everything has limitation except speed govt

Bhia, can you explain how using movile data can offer some relief … Mobile data or what ever data is provided at the back haul level by the Undersea cables … With limited bandwidth through VSat … So how come changing the ladt mile connectivity to mobile data will solve anything??
