Punjab Bans Private Pharmacies in Govt Hospitals

The Specialized Healthcare Department has directed the immediate shutdown of private medical stores operating inside government teaching hospitals, declaring their presence unlawful.

In a circular issued to vice chancellors, principals, deans, and medical superintendents, the department instructed all concerned officials to submit compliance reports by October 1.

Authorities have previously raised concerns that private pharmacies near public hospitals were involved in offering commissions to doctors and manipulating medicine quotas.

The department had already restricted the internal supply of medicines and procurement from external vendors. With this new order, all private medical outlets within government hospital premises are now required to cease operations
