Mohammad Amir Breaks Silence on ILT20 Auction ‘Snub’

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has finally spoken out after speculation swirled around his status in the historic first ILT20 auction. Many believed the left-arm quick had been snubbed, but Amir himself has now set the record straight.

The 33-year-old was one of several Pakistani players available for selection in the upcoming season but surprisingly found no takers despite a rich pedigree in franchise cricket. He has since shared his side of the story on social media, posting a screenshot of an email in which he formally notified league organisers of his withdrawal ahead of the auction.

The email read: “As you may be aware of the recent developments, please treat this email as a notice of withdrawal by Mohammad Amir from the upcoming ILT20 auction.”

That statement sought to shut down rumours that the pacer had gone unsold due to a lack of interest from the six teams. However, despite his explanation, Mohammad Amir still appeared in the auction at USD 80,000 but went unsold. Desert Vipers’ CEO Phil Oliver later clarified that the team did not bid on their former player because they had suitable replacements, including Naseem Shah.

Whatever the true case, Mohammad Amir has already proven himself in the ILT20 long before the auction. In two seasons with the Vipers, he has taken 26 wickets at an economy of 8.01, making him one of the most reliable left-arm seamers in franchise cricket.

With the ILT20 set to kick off on December 2 across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, the question remains: will Mohammad Amir return to the league in future editions, or was this his quiet farewell?
