Abu Dhabi is preparing to launch a state-of-the-art tram system that will connect Zayed International Airport to major attractions such as Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, Yas Waterworld, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, Yas Mall, and Yas Marina Circuit. Future expansions may even link the line to Disneyland.
The Abu Dhabi Light Rail project, showcased by the Abu Dhabi Transport Company (ADT) at Global Rail 2025, is set to transform mobility across the capital. A masterplan revealed at the event detailed Urban Loop and Abu Dhabi Tram Line 4, designed to serve Yas Island and the surrounding residential communities of Al Raha.
The network will be rolled out in three phases, featuring a central depot near Etihad Airways’ headquarters, high-speed stations, and extensive parking facilities to streamline commuter flow. Later stages will extend services into nearby areas, including Khalifa City and additional parts of Yas Island. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with operations projected to start by 2030.
At the unveiling, Saeed Salem Al Suwaidi, CEO of ADT, said the company is focused on “reimagining” urban mobility by integrating transport systems, smart infrastructure, and data-driven solutions to build sustainable, seamlessly connected cities.
In line with this vision, ADT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi Airports to promote integrated public transport across the emirate. “The partnership will deliver sustainable, convenient connections that enhance passenger experience, support community wellbeing, and stimulate economic growth,” ADT stated.
Once in service, the tram will play a central role in Abu Dhabi’s evolving transport landscape — providing a sustainable link between the international airport, Yas Island’s leisure and retail hubs, and nearby residential communities.
