IESCO Imposes Mandatory Condition for New Electricity Connections

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has made biometric verification mandatory for consumers applying for new electricity connections or seeking reconnections.

The decision was announced on Friday following an agreement signed between IESCO and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Technologies.

The accord was signed at IESCO’s headquarters by Chief Executive Officer Engineer Khalid Mehmood and NADRA Technologies CEO Umar Khan Azad. The move follows directives from the federal energy ministry on digitalization and consumer-friendly policies in the power sector.

Under the terms of the agreement, biometric verification of consumers will be required before new connections are issued and before reconnections are allowed.

The initiative is intended to eliminate fake and illegal electricity connections, give IESCO access to accurate consumer data, and ensure that defaulters cannot obtain a new electricity connection without clearing their outstanding dues.
