The Sindh Cabinet has approved the abolition of the death certificate fee, allowing citizens to obtain the document free of charge at the municipal, union council, and town committee levels.
According to an official spokesperson, the move follows the cabinet’s earlier decision in September 2024 to introduce free birth registration across the province.
The initiative aligns with the Sindh government’s collaboration with the United Nations and other global partners to enhance the province’s civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) system.
Under the new policy, the Sindh government will cover all service charges payable to NADRA, ensuring that no citizen incurs any expense when applying for a death certificate.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the measure is designed to facilitate the public and advance digital registration of vital events under the Local Government Act 2013.
The proposal, endorsed by the Law and Finance Departments and validated by the Chief Secretary, received formal approval from the cabinet.
