The Punjab government has unveiled a major housing initiative to construct 57,000 affordable homes across the province for deserving families, offering ownership through easy installment plans.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Housing Department, the project aims to deliver standardized, low-cost housing under the department’s supervision.
In the first phase, construction will begin on 20,000 homes at 41 selected sites across Punjab. The government has also approved the transfer of selected state lands to the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency for this purpose.
Homes will be built on government-owned land in 24 districts, featuring a variety of designs and sizes. These include single-storey units of 250 square feet in 16 districts, three-storey buildings (530 sq. ft.) in five districts, and four-storey buildings (550 sq. ft.) in three districts.
The Housing Department said the five-year project will incorporate solar energy systems and rainwater harvesting for sustainable living.
The initiative will be carried out in partnership with the World Bank and the private sector, ensuring international construction standards, reliable facilities, and strong project monitoring.
Officials added that the scheme will guarantee quality control at every stage and provide residents with all essential amenities to improve their living conditions.
