The Punjab government has announced the commencement of long-overdue repair and restoration work on the Orange Line Metro Train infrastructure. Punjab Chief Minister has instructed the Mass Transit Authority to take prompt action to improve the deteriorating condition of the train system and enhance the travel experience for commuters.
As per the official statement, funds that had been pending for more than two years will now be released. The Finance Department has been directed to immediately allocate over Rs. 500 million for maintenance and rehabilitation efforts.
The Chief Minister emphasized prioritizing the repair of the train’s water, sanitation, and leakage systems to ensure passenger safety and provide a reliable mode of urban transport.
A recent report by the Mass Transit Authority highlighted major maintenance concerns, including water leakage at 742 points, water accumulation at 24 locations, and drainage issues at 834 spots along the tracks and stations.
Furthermore, wastewater disposal problems were identified at 68 points, all of which will be addressed urgently.
According to sources, the repair work is expected to begin soon, aiming to restore the operational efficiency of the Orange Line Metro Train and improve daily travel for Lahore’s residents.
