Karachi Woman Wins Alimony Case Against Ex-Husband After 18 Years

After almost 18 years of legal battles, a Karachi woman has finally won her long-pending alimony case against her former husband.

The case was settled through mutual agreement in court, with the man ordered to pay Rs. 2.5 million as alimony.

According to the court’s directive, the amount will be paid in five installments over the next year. The woman had first filed for maintenance in 2007, but her appeals were repeatedly rejected by both the sessions court and the Sindh High Court. She later approached the Supreme Court, which instructed the lower courts to expedite the matter.

Following these directions, the Sindh High Court referred the case back to a Karachi trial court for a fresh hearing.

Mediation between the two parties led to a mutual settlement, under which both sides agreed that once the Rs. 2.5 million payment was completed, no further legal claims would be filed.
