Sindh Launches Riverine Forestation Project

To help mitigate climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Pakistan, a large-scale riverine forest restoration project is set to be launched across 41,000 hectares in Sindh’s Jamshoro and Matiari districts under a public-private partnership model.

The Sindh government has granted approval to the Sindh Forest Department for issuing a letter of award to the preferred bidders across three project packages.

According to officials, the initiative is projected to generate 35–40 million carbon credits, which will be traded on international carbon markets — providing Pakistan with valuable foreign exchange revenue.

In addition, the board has sanctioned the engagement of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to conduct a feasibility study for a new, expanded riverine forestation project covering around 88,000 hectares in Sindh.
