Dubai to Link Traffic Signals Directly with Car Dashboards Using AI

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is developing a new artificial intelligence-powered traffic system that will connect traffic lights directly to vehicle dashboards, enabling drivers to view real-time updates without needing to check their phones.

The project, known as UX Fusion, is part of Dubai’s next-generation traffic management network. It uses computer vision and data analytics to monitor vehicle flow, identify vehicle types, count pedestrians, and optimize signal timing across entire road corridors rather than single intersections.

Unlike traditional systems that control intersections independently, UX Fusion synchronizes multiple traffic lights along key routes, enabling vehicles to move through smoothly with fewer stops.

The RTA is also working with international car manufacturers to integrate this technology directly into vehicles. Once operational, drivers will receive dashboard notifications showing green and red light countdowns, safe speed recommendations, and traffic alerts such as congestion or road accidents.

According to the RTA, the project is still in its proof-of-concept phase, but full rollout could begin within the next three years once coordination with manufacturers and infrastructure setup is complete.

Dubai already operates one of the region’s most advanced AI-driven traffic systems, which has reportedly improved intersection efficiency by 37% and cut travel times by up to 20%. The UX Fusion upgrade aims to push those improvements even further by introducing vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communication — similar to smart mobility networks used in global cities such as Singapore, Seoul, and Helsinki.
