Internet Services Expected to Go Down for the Whole Day in Pakistan

Pakistan Telecommunications Limited (PTCL) has announced that internet users across the country may experience slower speeds and degraded connectivity on Tuesday due to maintenance work on a submarine cable.

PTCL stated that the repair work is necessary to fix a faulty repeater in the undersea cable system. The maintenance activity is scheduled to begin on October 14 at around 11am PST and could last for up to 18 hours. “During this period, customers will face Internet service degradation. We regret the inconvenience,” the company said.

The announcement comes as users in Pakistan have already started reporting issues accessing popular social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, according to internet monitoring service Downdetector. The platform’s data shows a spike in user complaints about outages over the past 24 hours.

This is not the first time Pakistan’s internet services have been affected by submarine cable issues. Just last month, PTCL warned that cable cuts in Saudi waters could disrupt connectivity during peak hours.

PTCL has assured customers that it is working to restore normal service as quickly as possible and has apologized for any inconvenience caused by the ongoing maintenance.

The outage comes shortly after the weekend during which mobile internet services were completely suspended in Islamabad and Lahore for several days amid widespread protests by the hardline group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

  • Absolute crap and false. As per official notification from PTCL, Internet services “may slow down”.

Very disappointed to see this happening on ProPakistani, which I used to rely previously.

  • Disgusting and shameless clickbait with the title.

You are feeding the misinformation monster with this. It’s just a repair activity that will slow down the internet, not take it down completely that has been blown out of proportion and people are twisting it to be a political move.

  • Well it’s after 11 AM and the internet still works.

Excellent clickbait ‘journalism’ from ProPK as usual

  • Everything working fine, no drop in internet speed or quality. I keep using internet whole day whether I’m at home or outside.
