The Punjab government has finalized the feasibility study for the Islamabad–Murree monorail project as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz pushes for early implementation of the initiative.
The 40-kilometer track is planned to connect Islamabad to Murree, with a significant portion designed as an elevated line. The government had initially planned to start the first phase from near Lake View Park to Pindi Point in Murree.
However, recent discussions have shifted focus toward extending the route to the Islamabad International Airport to provide easier access for travelers and tourists.
According to officials, the feasibility process has been completed, and preparations are now underway for the procurement phase to begin track development. The Punjab chief minister has been personally monitoring progress and has directed departments to expedite the project’s launch.
The route will likely pass close to the old Murree Road, and experts have confirmed that the terrain is suitable for the monorail system. The government expects the project to be completed within two years once construction begins.
A meeting between the Punjab government and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) was recently held to discuss alignment options for the airport connection. Officials reviewed multiple routes, including using the right of way along Srinagar Highway from the airport to Peshawar Mor, followed by a possible extension to Lake View Park.
The CDA also suggested potential linkages with existing rail infrastructure at Margalla and Rawat railway stations. Both the Punjab government and CDA have agreed to conduct a pre-feasibility study for the airport-to-Lake View section before finalizing the alignment.

What a waste of money. Some big shot will be rolling in money soon and citizens of Pakistan will pay dearly. Plan to mortgage future generations.
We are Pakistani citizens, and this development is our right.
No one is doing us a favor that we should feel indebted to repay.
Sir these projects are paid through loans, while these do not generate enough cash flows to repay debts. So this results in a quagmire, finally takes its toll on already doomed economy.
Anday kattay wachay 😂😂😂

This is a good news . Thanks to the Punjab government for providing facilities to people.

Paani ki pipeline ban nhi saki, Saal guzar gaye. Pata nhi kya priorities hein.
This seems to be a good project however there are other more and more concerns that Punjab Govt needs to be more focused instead of taking loans and planning commute only for public just to gain the attention of people who only keep an eye on roads, public stalls etc.
What a great initiative for connecting the cities as this will create more opportunities for business, employment, education specially for young generation
Good job. Maryam is wonderful as compare to buzdar +++
Wrong priorities . Health & education should b at top of list
Dams are most important than luxury train
there are delayed and less opportunity of commission and corruption in building the dams which require almost 7 to 10 years to complete. there are instant and immediate benefits in construction of roads , bridges , purchases of items ie busses etc . then why build dams for the benefits of masses and lose their personal gains
Though the dams are important but what facility for the public is initiated must not be discouraged.
In Punjab dam feasibility was for kalabagh Dan and it is politicised .
We can’t build dams until we become Pakistanis, as of now we are Sindhi, Punjabi, Pathan and So many more.
What dam you suggest and where, which river. ?
Kalabagh Dam? Some people say-over our dead bodies.
Canals…over our dead body.
Ham Sirf Trains kei kaabil Hein, ban jaany dein. It will improve tourism.local people will benefit.
