Sindh Introduces Attendance Monitoring System for Students

The Sindh government has introduced a digital monitoring system to track student attendance and improve accountability in public schools.

The initiative, called the Student Attendance Monitoring System (SAMRS), was launched during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The system aims to identify reasons behind absenteeism and enhance overall educational performance across the province.

Developed under the Sindh Early Learning Enhancement Through Classroom Transformation Project, SAMRS will initially be implemented in 600 schools across 12 districts, before being expanded to all schools in Sindh. The project has been developed with support from the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education.

According to Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, SAMRS is a technology-driven solution that uses an offline mobile application to record daily attendance and gather data from schools. It is designed to help reduce dropout rates and monitor both teacher and student performance.

The chief minister said the system marks an important step toward integrating technology in education and ensuring transparency. A formal launch ceremony will be held soon, with participation from international partners and education stakeholders.
