High Court Announces Strange Policy to Tackle Drug Problem in Educational Institutions

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has declared that if drugs are found being supplied within educational institutions, strict action will be taken against the principals.

Justice Inam Amin Minhas issued the direction while hearing a case regarding drug use complaints in federal educational institutions. During the hearing, Islamabad Police submitted a report stating that 1,314 drug-related cases were registered this year and 1,408 suspects were arrested.

The report added that 22 drug peddlers were caught near schools and colleges, and 3 kilograms of heroin, 3 kilograms of ice, and 18 kilograms of hashish were seized.

Police officials informed the court that a campaign titled “Nasha Ab Nahi” has been launched to curb narcotics use through awareness sessions and seminars. Justice Minhas, however, questioned the effectiveness of these committees and directed the authorities to submit performance reports.

He ordered that no event or activity should be held in schools without the principal’s approval, adding that if drug supply is detected, the principal will be held responsible. The judge said administrations of institutions near affected areas must also be investigated.
