Confusion spread across Punjab’s education system on Thursday after conflicting announcements about winter school timings left teachers, students, and parents uncertain about new schedules.
Yesterday afternoon, district education authorities (DEAs) across Punjab individually issued notifications announcing revised winter timings for schools, detailing new reporting hours for both students and teachers.
However, by the evening, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat contradicted those orders, saying on social media that the School Education Department (SED) had not issued any official notification regarding winter timings.
The minister’s statement immediately created widespread uncertainty, as district administrations had already shared their new timetables with schools and teaching staff.
Many teachers and parents questioned whether the district notifications still stood or had been overruled by the minister’s clarification.
The public has criticized the repeated mismanagement of school timing changes, which occur annually with the onset of winter.
They argued that such confusion reflects poor coordination between the provincial department and district offices.
