The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for eight districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the risk of glacial lake outburst floods and possible flooding caused by glacier melting and heavy rains.
The authority said Chitral, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, and Mansehra face the risk of flooding as water levels rise in rivers, streams, and seasonal nullahs.
It warned that increased glacier melt combined with rainfall could raise water flow and threaten nearby communities.
PDMA directed the concerned deputy commissioners to closely monitor vulnerable areas and activate an effective early warning system.
It also instructed officials to ensure the availability of rescue personnel and equipment in Kohistan, Mansehra, and Swat.
The authority said preparations for possible evacuations should also be completed in Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Mansehra.
