In an unusual and concerning incident at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, a young cricket fan breached security and reached the players’ dressing room in an alleged attempt to meet Pakistan’s star batter, Babar Azam.
The incident occurred during the first Test match between Pakistan and South Africa. According to police reports, the fan—identified as Hamza, a resident of Lahore’s Gulberg area—climbed over the stadium wall and entered the restricted dressing room area. The unexpected visitor startled the players before being quickly detained by stadium security and escorted out.
Although the players’ dressing rooms are visible from the spectators’ section, they are not accessible and are usually guarded, making the breach especially troubling.
Gulberg Police confirmed that the individual has been taken into custody and a case has been registered under sections related to trespassing into a prohibited area and interfering with official duties.
As per the FIR, the fan’s sole intention for breaching Pakistan’s dressing room was to meet his cricket idol and take a selfie with Babar Azam. However, authorities emphasized that such breaches pose serious security risks, particularly at a high-security venue like Gaddafi Stadium, which regularly hosts international matches.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet issued an official statement, but security at the stadium is expected to be reviewed following the incident.
Pakistan and South Africa are next scheduled to meet in Rawalpindi, with the match guaranteed to take place under stricter security measures.
