Despite all the talk of a boycott from India and their unsportsmanlike tactics, the Pakistan vs India cricketing rivalry continues to bring the world to a standstill and the latest example of that came during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, in the form of record-breaking viewership.
The much-anticipated clash shattered all previous records, becoming the most-watched women’s cricket match of all time, according to official figures released by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Held on October 5, the high-voltage encounter between the two arch-rivals drew a massive digital reach of 28.4 million and an astonishing 1.87 billion minutes of watch time across platforms, making it the biggest women’s international cricket match in history.
The build-up to the game was once again dominated by headlines highlighting the frosty ties between the two nations. Yet, despite all the outside noise, Pakistan and India proved once again that regardless of the arena, format, or gender, whenever these two sides meet, record numbers follow.
While Pakistan vs India may be breaking individual viewership records, the entire ICC Women’s ODI World Cup is garnering unprecedented interest. The ICC revealed that the first half of the 2025 edition has delivered “record-breaking numbers” across both TV and digital platforms, led by the electrifying India-Pakistan fixture.
According to ICC data, the first 11 matches of the tournament reached 72 million viewers, marking a 166% jump compared to the previous edition. Moreover, total viewing minutes skyrocketed by 327%, reaching 6.3 billion minutes across platforms, a staggering figure that reflects the exponential rise in interest in women’s cricket.
In total, the first 13 matches of the tournament have reached over 60 million unique viewers, representing a fivefold increase from 2022, while total watch time surged twelvefold to over 7 billion minutes, according to data released by the ICC.
The overwhelming response to the ongoing ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 signals a landmark moment for the women’s game. The India-Pakistan rivalry, often dubbed the most emotionally charged matchup in global sport, continues to drive massive engagement, not just on TV, but across streaming platforms and social media.
As the tournament enters its business end, anticipation is building. With semi-final spots on the line, the ICC expects viewership to soar even higher, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to a historic World Cup.
