Several areas of Karachi are facing an acute water shortage as repair work continues on the city’s main water supply lines, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the Karachi Water Corporation (KWC), the water supply has been disrupted in Scheme 33, Safoora Goth, North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and the Federal B Area due to a leakage in a 48-inch pipeline connected to the North-East Pumping Station.
A KWC spokesperson said that three of the main water supply pumps have been temporarily shut down to facilitate urgent maintenance work. Additionally, one pump at the Dhabeji Pumping Station has also been suspended due to ongoing repairs.
The shutdown has reduced the city’s water supply by approximately 150 million gallons per day (MGD), causing significant inconvenience to residents. The spokesperson added that the water tanker service has also been suspended because of the temporary closure of the main lines.
“Repair work on the damaged pipeline is underway and will be completed within ten hours,” the spokesperson assured, adding that normal supply will resume once maintenance is finalized.
