The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has added two more major projects to its development plan — the overhauling of the Islamabad Expressway service road and the construction of a new road linking Margalla Road to Islamabad’s boundary, where it will connect with a proposed route of Rawalpindi.
According to details, the planning and revenue departments have yet to complete the land acquisition process for the new road. The Expressway service road, which has long awaited repairs, remains in poor condition with potholes and rutting between Sohan and Koral, causing difficulties for daily commuters.
Meanwhile, the CDA said work on the T-Chowk flyover continues at a steady pace, with 46 percent of the construction completed. The Rs. 1.4 billion project, located at the junction of GT Road and the Expressway, aims to ensure a smoother flow of traffic coming from Lahore.
The three-lane flyover stretches 1.1 kilometers and is expected to be completed within 150 days. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the project last month.
Officials also confirmed that the Shaheen Chowk project has been awarded and will be formally inaugurated soon. The civic body plans to construct an underpass at Khyaban-i-Iqbal (Margalla Road) intersecting 9th Avenue to reduce congestion in the area, where heavy traffic from nearby government offices and educational institutions often causes gridlocks during peak hours.
