Govt Officially Announces Karachi Green Line Completion Date

Federal government spokesperson for Sindh, Raja Khaleeq Ansari, has announced that work on Karachi’s long-delayed Green Line project will resume soon, bringing much-awaited relief to the city’s residents.

Speaking to Geo News, Ansari said that a detailed meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s House, during which all aspects of the Green Line project were reviewed. He confirmed that the unfinished work identified by the local government will be completed promptly.

He called it “good news for citizens,” stating that although the project has faced a delay of about a month, it is now expected to be completed by September 2026. Ansari revealed that a new station will be built near Capri Cinema, Plaza, and Jama Cloth, while the Green Line corridor will end near Jama Cloth.

Addressing concerns raised by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the spokesperson clarified that the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project had already been issued in 2017, long before the current mayor took office. Since the NOC carried no expiration date, it remains valid, he explained.

Ansari further announced that an ultra-modern station at Karachi Cantt will be inaugurated on October 31, describing it as a “state-of-the-art facility” that will give commuters an experience similar to an airport terminal.

He added that the federal government is ready to assist in Karachi’s ongoing infrastructure and development projects, noting that only maintenance work is currently being carried out on the Lyari Expressway, which will continue to operate as usual.
