PFA Seizes 1,000kg of Unsafe Meat

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday raided an illegal slaughterhouse operating on Jamia Masjid Road and seized 1,000 kilograms of unsafe meat believed to have been obtained from sick animals. One suspect was taken into custody during the operation.

Acting on a public complaint, a PFA enforcement team stormed the premises where unfit animals were allegedly being slaughtered without approval. A veterinary doctor examined the recovered meat on-site and declared it hazardous for human consumption.

According to an authority spokesperson, the crackdown is part of a province-wide campaign targeting illegal slaughterhouses that often cater to low-cost demand by butchering diseased animals.

“Only approved slaughterhouses are permitted to process animals,” the spokesperson said, urging citizens to report violations by calling helpline 1223. “Illegal facilities pose a direct threat to public health and will not be tolerated.”
