Ghee and Oil Prices Increase Across Pakistan

Prices of ghee and cooking oil have recorded a sharp increase in Pakistan, adding another layer of burden on already struggling households.

According to market data, the price of premium ghee and cooking oil has risen by Rs. 10, reaching Rs. 582 per litre or kilogram. The second-tier category is now selling for around Rs. 540 per litre or kilogram.

Consumers say the latest hike has made it even harder to manage household budgets amid persistent inflation.

At the same time, sugar prices have also gone up by Rs. 2, bringing the retail rate to Rs. 179 per kilogram.

Experts attribute the increase to rising global commodity prices and supply chain disruptions, warning that further fluctuations could follow if import costs remain high.

Meanwhile, tomato prices have skyrocketed, now ranging between Rs. 500 and Rs. 700 per kilogram, compared to the official rate of Rs. 368.

Retailers blame the surge on supply shortages and transport bottlenecks, particularly after disruptions in major trade routes. The highest prices have been reported in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Burns Road areas of Karachi.

Consumers across major cities are expressing frustration, saying the continuous rise in essential food prices has made daily living increasingly difficult.
