Punjab Launches Doorstep Driving License Facility for Women

The Punjab government has launched a Pink Mobile Police Station and Licensing Unit to provide policing and licensing services to women at their doorstep.

City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani inaugurated the service at Rawalpindi Medical University on Wednesday. Female students and staff received on-site licensing and registration services at the launch.

Senior officials, including Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam, Vice Chancellor Dr Umar, STO Munir Hashmi, and others, attended the ceremony.

CTO Farhan Aslam said that Punjab earlier operated two mobile units for the general public. However, under the Chief Minister’s empowerment initiative, a new Panic Mobile Unit has been introduced exclusively for women.

The mobile van will visit universities, offices, and field sites. It will issue learner permits, driving licenses, international permits, crime reports, and official certificates on-site.

Each vehicle has four fully equipped counters for biometric scans, fingerprinting, and instant licence printing. Four female officers have been deployed to run the unit. In addition, the van will offer driving lectures and skill training at each stop.

CPO Khalid Hamdani said that 33 such mobile units are now operating across Punjab. “Women can now file FIRs, get learner or permanent licences, renew licences, or apply for international permits without visiting offices,” he said. He added that the goal is to boost women’s mobility and independence. “Many women avoid police offices. This service closes that gap,” he noted.

He also announced plans to upgrade the unit into a virtual “mini police station” in the future.

Vice Chancellor Dr Umar praised the initiative, calling it a major step for campus women. Students welcomed the launch. “Earlier, it was very difficult for women to visit offices. Now we can do everything ourselves,” said Zainab Naseer, a second-year student.

Another student, Zuneira Asghar, said, “The laptop scheme and now this mobile licensing unit prove the government is serious about women’s empowerment.”
