Dubai Once Again Ranks Among Top 10 Polluted Cities in the World Today

Dubai has ranked among the world’s top 10 most polluted cities, triggering environmental concerns in one of the Middle East’s most modern urban centers.

According to the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) data by IQAir, Dubai recorded an AQI of 155, placing it in the “Unhealthy” category. The ranking positioned Dubai ninth globally, joining other major cities struggling with rising pollution levels such as Lahore, Delhi, Tashkent, and Cairo.

Experts attribute the city’s worsening air quality to heavy traffic emissions, large-scale construction projects, and dust storms common to the region. While Dubai continues to expand its infrastructure and industrial output, these activities have contributed significantly to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the air.

The UAE government has launched several sustainability initiatives under the Net Zero 2050 Strategy, focusing on renewable energy, electric mobility, and green building standards. However, experts warn that the pace of pollution control must accelerate to match the city’s rapid growth.

Health experts advise residents to limit outdoor activities during high-pollution days, particularly children and the elderly. Prolonged exposure to poor air quality can lead to serious respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

Despite the challenges, Dubai remains committed to its environmental goals. Authorities are monitoring pollution sources closely and expanding air quality monitoring networks to safeguard public health.
