The Embassy of Russia in Pakistan has confirmed that a viral video circulating on social media allegedly showing President Vladimir Putin threatening Pakistan amid tensions with Afghanistan is “100% fake.”
The video, shared widely by pro-Afghan and Indian users on X (formerly Twitter), falsely claimed to show Putin warning Pakistan’s military and promising support to Afghanistan during the ongoing cross-border tensions.
In an official statement, the Russian Embassy clarified that the footage was doctored and misleading. The original clip, it said, shows President Putin answering questions from journalists after a meeting of the Russian Geographical Society’s Board of Trustees held on October 23, 2025.
The embassy noted that Putin made no mention of Pakistan or Afghanistan in his remarks during that event.
The embassy denounced the manipulated clip as deliberate misinformation and reaffirmed that Russia supports peaceful resolution of regional disputes through dialogue. It stressed that Moscow values its friendly relations with both Pakistan and Afghanistan and continues to encourage diplomatic engagement to maintain stability and cooperation in the region.
