Terrorism Case Reportedly Filed Against Citizen for Fighting With Islamabad Traffic Police Officials

A man was arrested and booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) after he assaulted traffic police officers in the I-8 Markaz, Islamabad, police confirmed on Sunday.

A video circulating on social media shows the suspect attacking traffic personnel, creating chaos in the busy commercial hub, and spreading panic among bystanders as traffic came to a halt.

According to police officials, the suspect — identified as Aaqib — became violent after officers attempted to stop his vehicle for reckless driving and drifting. Instead of complying, he allegedly attacked the officers and hurled verbal abuse.

An FIR was registered at the I-9 Police Station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Gul Hassan. The case includes provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act along with other relevant sections of the law.

The FIR stated that the driver endangered public safety through dangerous driving and later attempted to run over officers trying to stop him.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly opened fire, damaged a police wireless set, and tore a police uniform.

Police later arrested the suspect and impounded his vehicle. He was taken into custody for further investigation.

Authorities said strict action would be taken against those who endanger public safety and obstruct law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
