The Nanbai Association has announced an indefinite closure of tandoors in Rawalpindi starting November 5. Association officials said the decision comes in response to ongoing cases against bakers, tandoor closures, and threats to their livelihoods.
According to the association, authorities are registering cases against nanbais, sealing tandoors, and disrupting people’s means of earning. The association stated that if the administration provides quality flour, they will not raise the price of roti.
They also pointed out that flour prices have doubled in the past two months, but the government has not offered any subsidy to bakers.
Nanbai Association leaders added that they are forced to use LPG cylinders because natural gas is unavailable.
The association’s move is expected to impact daily bread supply in Rawalpindi, as negotiations with the administration continue.
