The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched its e-challan system in another major urban center, further expanding its province-wide digital enforcement network aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow, promoting road safety, and curbing violations through advanced surveillance technology.
In this latest rollout, Gujranwala has officially joined the list of cities operating under the PSCA’s automated traffic monitoring system.
Starting Wednesday, over 1,066 high-definition cameras installed across the district will monitor traffic in real time and record violations such as driving without a helmet or seatbelt, using non-standard or missing number plates, and breaking other road safety laws.
Each violation will automatically generate a challan, which will be sent directly to offenders via SMS. A PSCA spokesperson said the authority had already been using the city’s camera network to help law enforcement track suspects in theft, robbery, and other criminal cases.
“Now, these cameras will also monitor traffic offenses to ensure stricter implementation of traffic rules,” the spokesperson added.
SP Safe City Authority Gujranwala, Irfan Salhriya, said the system had been tested for two months to address technical issues before going live. “From today, e-challans are being issued, and violations are monitored around the clock,” he confirmed.
He noted that manual ticketing by traffic wardens will now be supplemented by automated enforcement. Drivers who fail to pay fines on time will face doubled penalties or legal action. SP Salhriya urged citizens to follow traffic laws, adding, “The cameras won’t miss anything.”
