Ministers Voice Support Against ‘PTA Tax’ on Mobile Phones

Ministers representing the federal government have spoken against the tax imposed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on the regulator’s ‘unjust’ tax on mobile phones.

Member of National Assembly (MNA) Syed Ali Qasim Gilani on X thanked the Minister of State for Finance Bilal Kayani and Chairman Senate Finance Committee for their support against the PTA tax.

“I thank the IT Minister Shaza Fatima, Minister of State for Finance Bilal A Kayani and Chairman Senate Finance Committee Saleem Mandviwala for their support against the unjust and unreasonable PTA Tax,” he posted.

“Glad to learn from the Minister in charge of PTA that even PTA opposes this excessive tax on mobile phones,” he added.

Qasim first took to X last week urging the Standing Committee on Finance to review taxes on mobile phones.

He also warned that the current regime is restricting digital access for millions of Pakistanis and slowing the country’s technological progress.

  • Ministers voice is pointless

They can make laws today against these taxes if they wanted to. They are in parliament for this reason. All taxes are approved by parliament.

This voice is just fake publicity stunt

  • If 27th amendment was passed in no time by these ministers.

Pta tax can be reversed as well. The fact that it isn’t proves ministers want these taxes to remain for everyone.

  • No other country has imposed as unusual taxes as PTA. Even charging twice tax for some phone models

  • at least he spoke
no matter the reason behind it
taxes on phones are double then their actual worth
I think they just multiply the phone’s price at the launch with a flat rate no matter how old and cheap that phone has become
