The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has reportedly announced the name of Islamabad’s upcoming food and recreation hub, “Capital Street,” to be developed near Shakarparian, adjacent to the Art and Craft Village.
The new destination is part of CDA’s broader initiative to expand the capital’s leisure and dining facilities, alongside the ongoing revamp of the Melody Food Street and the creation of a car-free food zone in Blue Area.
According to CDA officials, Capital Street will be designed as a modern cultural and entertainment corridor featuring restaurants, open-air cafes, art workshops, and an exhibition hall. The plan also includes recreational areas and family-friendly spaces aimed at promoting local art and cuisine.
The project was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa earlier this year, who emphasized the need to elevate Islamabad’s food culture while ensuring better management and hygiene standards.
“Islamabad deserves vibrant, safe, and well-organized food spaces where families can enjoy local cuisine and entertainment,” Randhawa said during the session.
The CDA board has already approved several development measures, including upgrading lighting systems, improving parking arrangements, and introducing modern waste management at existing food sites.
Officials confirmed that while groundwork for Capital Street has not yet begun, land near Shakarparian has already been earmarked for the project. Once launched, it will serve as Islamabad’s newest culinary and cultural hotspot, complementing the city’s ongoing urban beautification efforts.
The civic agency also reaffirmed its commitment to improving Melody Food Street, which will undergo modernization with help from the Islamabad Food Authority, ensuring strict compliance with food safety regulations.
