2025 has been the year of T20I tri-nation series as teams continue to prepare for the next T20I World Cup. In continuation of this trend, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reportedly approached the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about the possibility of organising such a series in Bangladesh in December.
According to sources quoted by Geo News, the BCB had suggested a three-nation tournament featuring Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. However, the PCB has already turned down the offer after evaluating the calendar and player commitments for the end of the year.
December is already shaping up to be a busy month for Pakistani players. A number of Pakistan’s top cricketers — including Babar Azam and star pacer Shaheen Afridi — will be busy in Australia during that period, representing various franchises in the Big Bash League (BBL).
PCB officials also reportedly believe that adding another series in December would put additional strain on players already engaged in back-to-back international and league commitments. Pakistan has already hosted South Africa for a full tour and is facing Sri Lanka in the ODIs before welcoming Zimbabwe for a tri-nation series later this month as well.
After the BBL, Pakistan will host Australia for a T20I series, which also has the potential to be converted into a tri-nation series as the final preparation for the T20I World Cup.
Pakistan and Bangladesh have already met in two bilateral series this year as well as the Asia Cup, but with an eye on player workload and a packed international calendar, the PCB appears focused on managing its resources carefully — even if that means missing out on another tri-series opportunity abroad.
Should agree to a five team penta series with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and or Nepal, and or some team from West Asia like Saudi Arabia or USA or some team from Central Asia/Europe/Africa/South East Asia.
Send your younger inexperienced side including from Pakistan Shaheens and also the fellas who have performed in the domestic cricket. This is the potential to increase cricketing bonds between these nations and also give the players exposure.
