Google Finally Enables Native Call Recording on Older Phones

Google has released a new update for its Phone app that brings native call recording to Pixel 6 and newer devices worldwide.

The feature is also expanding to older Pixel models, as long as they are running Android 14 or later. Users must update to version 198 or newer of the Google Phone app to enable it.

Once the app is updated, users can activate the feature by opening the Phone app settings, selecting Call Assist, and turning on Call Recording.

Calls can then be recorded manually from the dialer. The update also adds options for automatic recording, allowing users to capture calls from unknown numbers or specific saved contacts.

Alongside call recording support for older Pixels, Google is expanding access to Call Notes. This AI-powered tool offers transcriptions and summaries and is now rolling out to users in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, and Japan as part of the November Pixel Feature Drop.
