The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has provided a fresh update on the long-delayed missing link of the Peshawar Ring Road, calling it a key component of upcoming infrastructure improvements across the provincial capital.
Provincial Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Meena Khan Afridi said the missing link is scheduled to be inaugurated in January 2026.
He noted that the project is part of a broader plan to ease traffic congestion and support Peshawar’s expansion as the city continues to absorb large numbers of people displaced during years of military operations in surrounding regions.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi launched Peshawar’s beautification initiative. The chief minister said the project aims to restore the city’s identity while upgrading essential urban infrastructure.
Under the plan, authorities will rehabilitate major roads, expand green spaces, improve lighting, and introduce measures to streamline traffic flow. Afridi said all new policies will prioritize public interest and added that anyone violating rules will be held accountable.
He also criticized what he described as long-standing financial discrimination against KP, citing unpaid hydel profits and withheld development funds for merged districts. Officials said a comprehensive master plan for Peshawar will be prepared soon, and visible improvements are expected by mid-2026.
