Dubai Airports is preparing to roll out new processes to create a fully frictionless travel experience. CEO Paul Griffiths said the goal is to save passengers’ time by eliminating queues, check-in desks, and intrusive security steps.
Speaking at the Dubai Airshow 2025, Griffiths said passengers should not be asked to stand in line, attach paper tags to luggage, or remove shoes and belts at security. He said new technology now makes it possible to simplify every step of the journey.
Dubai Airports has already replaced traditional immigration checks with facial recognition cameras. Griffiths said the authority is also working with security teams to make screening faster and less intrusive. For passengers with hand baggage only, check-in will be removed entirely.
He said these changes will respect passengers’ time and speed up airport flow. Faster movement will help Dubai handle up to four times more passengers without expanding physical space.
Griffiths called the move from Dubai International (DXB) to Al Maktoum International Airport in 2032 the “world’s largest transition.” DXB is expected to cross 100 million passengers within two years and reach 114 million by 2031.
The new Al Maktoum Airport will open with a capacity of 150 million passengers and expand to 260 million by 2057, becoming the world’s largest airport.

Most of the people in Dubai live in downtown and current Dubai International Airport is reachable for everyone.
Once Al Maktoum Airport is opened, the passengers will face lot of problems in terms of time, money and convenience.
Does the government has think about.
