Salman Ali Agha Vows to Give Youngsters a Chance During Tri-Nation Series

Pakistan’s T20I captain Agha Salman has made it clear that the upcoming tri-nation series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe will not only be about results, but also about creating opportunities for the next generation of T20 talent as the management looks to build a formidable unit for future assignments.

Speaking ahead of the series opener in Rawalpindi, Salman struck a confident tone, warning that while winning always comes first, opportunities will still be earned.

With Pakistan using every available series as a dress rehearsal for next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the skipper acknowledged the growing pressure to sort out the middle order and finalize combinations well before the global event begins.

“We have fifteen players, and the aim is to give everyone a fair chance,” the skipper said. “But international cricket doesn’t allow you to take any team lightly, so our first priority is to win, then we rotate where we can.”

Pakistan’s T20I squad has already shown a willingness to change in recent months, with several players making way. Mohammad Haris, Sufiyan Muqeem, and most recently Hasan Nawaz were all dropped from the team in favour of Usman Khan, Usman Tariq, and now Abdul Samad. With Pakistan searching for a middle-order finisher, Salman hinted that Abdul Samad could walk straight into the middle order.

“Performances in the middle haven’t been what we expect,” he admitted. “Hasan is a talented player and will bounce back, but for now Samad gives us another option at number six. He plays the finisher’s role naturally.”

Pakistan will test its new combinations starting with Zimbabwe as the two square off in the tri-nation series opener tonight before taking on Sri Lanka on November 22. All three teams will face each other twice, with the top two advancing to the final on November 29.

For Pakistan, the mission is simple: win with intent right now, but continue building for the future.
