Work to Begin Next Month on New Islamabad–Motorway Link

Authorities will begin construction next month on a new five-kilometer road link connecting Islamabad to the M1 Motorway through Margalla Road. The project divides responsibilities between the Capital Development Authority and the National Highway Authority.

CDA will build 2.7 kilometers of the corridor, while NHA will construct 2.3 kilometers under the Public Sector Development Program, which has allocated six billion rupees for its portion, including land acquisition.

A review meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Monday examined progress on key development projects in the capital. Officials presented detailed briefs on the Margalla Avenue extension from N-5 to M-1 and on the proposed interchange at 17th Avenue in H-16.

They reported that the feasibility study for the interchange has been completed and that consultants have finalized the preliminary design. CDA teams are now preparing the PC-1 for their segment of the project.

The chairman directed officials to incorporate technical recommendations, complete all design revisions and move quickly to the next stage. He said CDA has already secured approval for its PC-1, while NHA has obtained CDWP approval for its section.

He instructed both agencies to finish the tendering process within the coming week, noting that initial funds have already been released.

Officials said the new connection will ease travel for residents of Islamabad’s outer sectors by providing a direct route to the motorway. The chairman directed departments to remove all obstacles promptly, calling the project essential for improving mobility and long-term urban planning in the capital.

  • It will be a great step for the Islamabad residents which will not only provide an alternate route but will also reduce burden on 26 number and motorway entrance many times.
It is suggested to touch Sector B-17 (Which is probably the Biggest Sector of Islamabad along with Faisal Hills, FMC & New City in a row) on its way to M-1.
