Karachi Police are rolling out a new system to issue fines for illegal parking as the city expands its digital traffic enforcement. The department has developed special “robot cars” equipped with automated cameras that will detect vehicles parked where stopping is not allowed.
In the first phase, police will deploy these robot cars in Saddar and Tariq Road, two of Karachi’s busiest commercial areas. The vehicles will patrol at around 20 kilometers per hour and automatically issue e-challans to any vehicle found parked illegally.
Officials say this system will improve enforcement and help reduce congestion by replacing slow manual ticketing. Meanwhile, the Sindh government is reviewing Karachi’s e-challan fines after widespread complaints that the penalties are unusually high compared to other regions.
Discussions are underway to significantly reduce several fine categories. A final decision is expected after consultations between the police and the provincial government.

So where does the citizen park. All building constructed in these areas are smack on the main road with no provisions of parking. Secondly, look at the flow of the vehicles that would come for shopping. There is no decent public transport which will encourage the citizens to use the same.
This ain’t gonna work till the time yall improve the overall I frastructure.. why make laws which are incompatible with the overall infrastructure…and do absolutely nothing to rectify infrastructural flaws. Best of luck.
Nice system but e Chalan highest rates people can not afford please reduce it
Dear Karachi rulers,
Have you made any arrangements for parking in the busy Tariq road areas? I am sure none.
If the main road is no parking then where will the shoppers park?
And when will you complete the bus route on the university road devastated by you.
The road has all been destroyed by the ill planned destruction in the name of a Bus service which has taken more than 5 years and may take another 5 years.
Fine too high ..for minor violation like seat belt .. lane changing or paking ticket etc etc fine shouldn’t be maor than Rs 1000 though Rs 500 is enough to warn the driver as for submitting the challenge it take at least half a day .. and additional petrol consumption..so one must take these factors into account .. besides having stress too .. already road conditions and traffic congestion in karachi are unbearable on most of the roads.. that’s not people fault for which they take risk n stress while driving.. I been many mega cities ..karachi offers worse scenario among all major cities ..
In developed nations, mandatory parking provisions are a standard requirement for all commercial construction projects. However, in Karachi, dedicated parking facilities are notably scarce. This deficiency has unfortunately led to the proliferation of illegal parking operations, which exploit citizens. This situation is analogous to the adage “cleanliness is next to godliness,” where the principle is acknowledged but rarely practiced. Consequently, the imposition of fines alone will not resolve the issue; a comprehensive and well-defined parking strategy is essential as a prerequisite.
Dear Sindh Government
Why not start working on E-voting system before next General Elections and initiate from Karachi.
In Lahore people are saying that the challan is of Rs 200 but it changed in 2021 after complaint by punjab traffic police that people were not following rules due to 200 Rs Challan. High court then changed the challan from 200 to 2000 in 2021. So there is a propaganda going on that other regions have less challan fees. Moreover in Karachi if you pay under 14 days 50% will be deducted, so for motorcycle 5000 full challan and Rs 2500 paid under 14 days. For car 10000 full challan and 5000 if paid under 14 days. So a huge propaganda is going on because of less awareness and news is also not covering the DIGs interviews whih is resulting in chaos and propaganda against a great initiative.
Bad planning by the Sindh government as if they want a compitation with Punjab who have well tained employees, where as the Karachi is managed by interior Sindh bureaucracy. There are no proper roads, no parking places on the roads and now they are targettig both the busiest roads. Where are the parking areas to accommodate all those places. If they cannot provide proper parkig shut all the business and commercial areas.
The robot machine will have an accident on its first day itself, at the hands of the public hahaaha.
Ppp will be doing all this but not develop an E voting system. Which will actually make a difference lol.
The Sindh Government should seriously consider to build multi-story parkings at least at 4 different locations on each street (Saddar & Tariq Road). Fir this to materialise, the government would be required to buy properties, which would be very costly but there is no other option if they are serious in solving traffic problem.
Pakistani laws are joke, who is responsible for million cars put on road ? Govt. ease installment planes for cars… so majority get loan and purchase cars otherwise they don’t have power to purchase.. City get worse and worse like jungle… now govt. awake and put heavy challan with no proper reason or lite violations……. failed state
AOA e Challans wrt wrong parking/unauthorized parking is acceptable but initially we shd develop awareness amongst the masses to abide by the rules and regulations of the roads. Also a good Governance always develops infrastructure for betterment of the people.Look at the dilapidated state of our roads.Enen our Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr Murad Ali Shah has mentioned about the condition of our roads. Also accountability for negligence in performance of duties shd be enforced henceforth.Stay Blessed AH
