Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has approved 16 development schemes worth Rs. 32 billion for Lahore’s Walled City. The projects include drainage upgrades, maintenance of the historic city wall, the development of a circular garden, and restoration work in the Neela Gumband area.
Rafique made the announcement while chairing a meeting to review progress on the Annual Development Programme (ADP) schemes under the Local Government Department. Punjab Local Government Secretary Shakeel Ahmed Mian and Additional Secretary Quratulain briefed the meeting on ongoing work.
The session also reviewed initiatives under the Lahore Historical Heritage Protection and Development Project (LHAR). Rafique said LHAR will add new parking plazas and underground electricity infrastructure.
The plan also includes underground parking and arcades near the Shalamar Gardens and Nasir Bagh. He directed the Walled City of Lahore Authority to ensure that all work protects the area’s historical and cultural heritage.
He stressed the importance of following the timelines set under the Punjab Development Programme (PDP) and the Murree Development Programme (MDP).
