Ali Tareen Khan has officially stepped away from his role as the owner of Multan Sultans, marking the end of a significant chapter for the franchise.
In a heartfelt message shared on X, Tareen expressed his deep connection to the team and its passionate fans. He emphasized how much the Multan Sultans have meant to him and the region of South Punjab.
Tareen reflected on his journey with the team, describing it as one of the greatest honors of his life. He acknowledged the unwavering support of the fans, who he believes have stood by the team through thick and thin. “I love the fans, I love this team, and I absolutely love being able to represent South Punjab,” Tareen wrote.
The emotional farewell also paid tribute to his late uncle, Alamgir Tareen, who was especially proud of the team’s representation of South Punjab. Ali Tareen shared that he always reminded the players and staff about the significance of representing a community that is resilient, hardworking, and relentless in the face of challenges.
Despite facing financial difficulties over the years, Tareen made it clear that the Multan Sultans meant more to him than just profit. “I never once thought about walking away,” he stated. “The Sultans have always been much more to me than just numbers.”
Tareen also acknowledged that he was not always popular with everyone, but remained true to his principles. “I have always been honest, and I have always spoken my mind,” he wrote. “If staying means compromising those principles, there is only one choice I can make.”
In his emotional farewell, Tareen emphasized the importance of the team to the fans and the region, urging them to continue supporting the Sultans regardless of who takes control next. “This team has always been much more than its owner. It belongs to you and to South Punjab,” he said.
Tareen concluded by assuring fans that he would continue to support the team from the stands. “Whoever takes control of the Sultans next, please keep supporting them with the same passion. You can count on me to be in the stands supporting them too.”
