Pakistan’s aviation sector expanded on Monday with the formal launch of South Air, a new domestic airline that aims to improve regional connectivity and offer more accessible travel options across the country.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani called the launch a “historic step,” saying the airline will help link smaller and underserved cities in South Punjab, interior Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said stronger air links would support local development, improve access to services and contribute to national cohesion. South Air’s first flight will operate from Karachi to Multan, with plans to add more destinations as the airline grows.
Gilani noted his long personal association with Multan and said the new carrier would boost confidence in the region’s economic and cultural potential.
He urged the airline’s management to keep fares affordable so that people from all income groups can benefit, adding that even lawmakers often struggle with high ticket prices.
Executives from South Air, legislators and business leaders attended the ceremony, where officials expressed optimism that the airline would stimulate economic activity and offer travelers more convenient domestic options.

It is the dire need of the hour to have lots many airports available in sindh & southern Punjab like Multan ,sukkur Hyderabad,I mean these airports should be activated forthwith
Another failed exercise!! Don’t know whom they’re making fool ! Already other airlines are struggling with high cost/ maintenance of leased aircrafts!! So, with political pressure, will loans from banks..then goodbye 👋 🙄

Good initiative though in the field of aviation.. but strengthening the level we must focus on the existing assests too with close monitoring and evaluation!

PIA has been drowned by heaviest load of staff per plane recruited on political demands, heavy reservations of seat for politicians on each flight often left vacant, heavy load of free passengers of PIA staff and their families and friends and on top of everything, astronomical corruption! Nothing of these ills are possible in private airlines. Therefore, they have all the plus points to fly high!
Private airlines also offer free tickets to staff for their families.
You are very right. Unfortunately the Rif-Raf does not understand the dynamics of the Airline industry.

دنیا کی بہترین ائیر لائن پی آئی اے تھی جس کو سفر کر کے سر فخر سے بلند ھو جاتا تھا۔پھر وقت آیا جب اس قومی اثاثے کو کدوں نے نوچنا شروع کر دیا ۔۔سیاسی بھرتیاں شروع ھوئیں،یہ بھرتیاں کروانے اور کرنے والوں نے کروڑوں کی دیہاڑیاں لگائیں۔۔ایک ایک پوسٹ کے لئے سات سات لوگ بھارتی ھوئے۔جو بھرتی ھوئے انھوں نے آتے ھیں کرپشن کی نئی تاریخ رقم کر دی ۔ایک جہاز جس میں سو کا عملہ درکار تھا وہاں تین تین سو کا عملہ کھپا دیا گیا۔۔مفت ٹکٹ،مفت علاج،دنیا کی مفت سیریں،دوست نوازیاں اس قومی اثاثے کو لے ڈوبیں۔۔واضع رھے کہ اس اثاثے کو تباہی کے دھانے پہنچانے والوں کے ابھی پیٹ نہیں بھرے۔۔
