Major Punjab City Announces New Rule for Rickshaws

The district administration has banned flatbed loader rickshaws as part of a push to improve road safety and reduce accident risks. The decision came during a traffic management meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Multan, Dr. Salma Suleman, where officials reviewed the rise in unsafe transportation practices across the city.

At the meeting, attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ghulam Mustafa Sihar, the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority, and a representative of the DSP Traffic, authorities agreed to launch a district-wide crackdown on locally modified flatbed rickshaws.

Officials said these vehicles have been involved in several road accidents and pose a serious threat to public safety. Dr. Suleman directed enforcement teams to take immediate action not only against flatbed loaders but also against overloaded motorcycle rickshaws.

She instructed officers to submit daily progress reports and made it clear that vehicles linked to past accidents should not reappear on the roads under any circumstances.

With foggy conditions approaching, Dr. Suleman also ordered sugarcane-laden tractor-trolleys to install reflectors, stressing that increased visibility is essential to prevent collisions during low-visibility weather.
