The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has restored SereneAir’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC), allowing the airline to move forward with preparations for its return to service.
With the certificate reinstated, the carrier can now bring in vital aircraft components, enabling its engineering department to perform required maintenance on the fleet. These key steps are already in progress, and SereneAir is gradually moving closer to resuming flight operations in the near future.
SereneAir’s operations were previously suspended after the carrier dropped below the minimum number of airworthy planes required to legally retain its license. With the approval now restored, the airline is preparing to relaunch domestic flights within roughly two months, while international routes may resume within three months, subject to regulatory clearance.
The airline’s management welcomed the development, thanking the government for its support. Chief Operating Officer Abdul Basit stated that the reinstatement would allow SereneAir to repair grounded aircraft and bring back additional planes currently outside Pakistan to rebuild the fleet.
He said the airline is now in a position to stabilize its operations, resolve pending issues, and begin clearing employee dues. According to Basit, salary payments will restart next month, and all outstanding financial matters will be settled soon.
The PCAA had suspended Serene Air’s Air Operator Certificate last month, grounding all flights with immediate effect. The regulator said the airline had failed to meet its obligation to maintain the required minimum fleet size and, at the time of suspension, had “no serviceable aircraft” available for flight operations.
The suspension order, signed by the Director of Flight Standards, directed the airline to surrender its AOC for endorsement, effectively shutting down both domestic and international services until further notice.
