Pakistan to Use AI to Stop Illegal Immigration

A high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain reviewed measures to curb the use of fake documents by outbound travellers and strengthen immigration controls. The government has decided to tighten action against passengers attempting to go abroad on forged visas and counterfeit papers.

According to the decisions taken in the meeting, the system for issuing protectors will be made foolproof, while reforms will also be introduced in the immigration process to facilitate genuine travellers. The ministers directed all departments to submit final recommendations within seven days and ordered an effective crackdown against the agent mafia involved in fake visa operations.

The government will launch an AI-based pilot project in Islamabad from January to prevent illegal immigration. Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the technology will help authorities determine in advance which passengers are travel-worthy and which are not. He added that passports of deported individuals will be cancelled permanently and steps will be taken to ensure they do not obtain visas again.

Mohsin Naqvi stated that a uniform international driving licence will be issued through the National Police Bureau, and strict zero-tolerance will be enforced against forged visas and the networks facilitating them. He said Pakistan is in contact with other countries to improve the ranking of its green passport, emphasising that fraudulent attempts to travel abroad damage the country’s global reputation.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain said a transparent protector system is essential and that individuals travelling on labour visas must possess authentic documents. He assured that the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis will fully cooperate with the Interior Ministry to improve the protector and immigration systems.

The meeting also reviewed action against illegal migrants and individuals with incomplete documents, and held detailed discussions on e-driving licences, protector stamps, and immigration procedures. Representatives from all relevant departments, including Immigration, NADRA, FIA, and the Passport & Immigration Directorate, attended the session.
