Punjab Announces Fines for Literring in Public Spaces

The Punjab government has decided to impose fines on individuals and businesses responsible for littering as part of its expanding cleanliness initiative across the province.

The decision came during a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where officials reviewed progress on the Suthra Punjab project.

During the briefing, officials informed the chief minister that public feedback on the program has been highly positive, with vehicle-tracking systems and live container monitoring already in place to improve oversight.

CM Maryam Nawaz said the scale of the cleanliness project was remarkable, adding that the province started from scratch and continued to improve the system with time. She remarked that a comprehensive waste-management framework for cities and villages should have been established years ago.

The meeting decided that commercial areas and anyone found littering on roads will face strict action and fines under the new enforcement measures.

The government also announced that sanitation vehicles in Punjab will transition to environmentally friendly electric vehicles, while waste-to-energy initiatives will be introduced to generate power from garbage.

The chief minister directed officials to submit a detailed plan for the waste-to-value project by mid-January.
