Samsung has maintained the same camera hardware on its baseline Galaxy S-series models for several generations. The Galaxy S25, released in January, featured the same triple-camera configuration as the Galaxy S24, which in turn matched the Galaxy S23. A new report from South Korea’s The Elec now indicates that the upcoming Galaxy S26 will again reuse the same modules featured in the Galaxy S25.
According to the report, the Galaxy S26 will include a 50MP main camera (1/1.56”), a 10MP telephoto sensor (1/3.94”) with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide camera (1/2.55”).
Planned Upgrades Scrapped After Apple’s Move
The report notes that Samsung initially intended to upgrade the Galaxy S26’s camera sensors and raise the phone’s starting price. However, Apple’s decision to equip the vanilla iPhone 17 with a 120Hz ProMotion LTPO OLED display and 256GB of base storage, while retaining its $799 starting price, led Samsung to reconsider its own plans.
As a result, Samsung reportedly scrapped the planned camera improvements to keep the Galaxy S26 aligned with the same $799 entry point.
Production Timeline Adjusted
The shift in strategy is now expected to delay the production schedule for the standard Galaxy S26 model. Samsung will need to redesign certain internal components to reflect the reverted camera plan.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is still expected to enter mass production this month, while the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ are projected to begin manufacturing in early 2026.
