The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has announced that the iconic Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad will stage Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches next year.
The news was confirmed during the PSL roadshow held in New York, signaling the league’s continued push to expand its footprint beyond traditional host cities.
The idea of Iqbal Stadium as a PSL venue makes sense, since Faisalabad is among the shortlisted cities to have its own franchise this season. The development comes ahead of PSL 11, which is expected to feature two new teams as part of the league’s expansion plan.
Iqbal Stadium, previously known as Lyallpur Stadium, is one of Pakistan’s historic cricket venues. Built in the 1970s, the ground has hosted 24 Test matches and 19 One-Day Internationals, and has also served as a regular venue for major domestic competitions, including the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The stadium has a seating capacity of around 17,000 spectators.
International cricket returned to Iqbal Stadium in 2025 after a 17-year hiatus. Although the venue was initially scheduled to host the opening two T20Is of Bangladesh’s tour in May, those fixtures were later shifted. The ground, however, successfully staged a three-match ODI series against South Africa in November 2025, marking its first ODI action since 2008.
The South Africa series witnessed packed stands across all three matches, with fans turning out in large numbers and generating an electric atmosphere, a response that strengthened Faisalabad’s case as a viable host city for top-level cricket.
