CCD Punjab Will Now Reportedly Investigate Sexual Offenses

The Punjab provincial cabinet has approved an expansion of the Crime Control Department’s (CCD) mandate, authorising it to investigate crimes involving women and children, officials said on Wednesday.

As part of the decision, the cabinet cleared the creation of a Special Sexual Offences Investigation Unit within the CCD.

The unit previously operated under the Investigation Wing and handled cases of sexual violence against women and children.

Under the new arrangement, officers and resources from the Special Sexual Offences Investigation Unit will be transferred to the CCD.

Officials said the move aims to improve coordination, strengthen investigative capacity, and enhance the government’s response to crimes against vulnerable groups.

Previously, 263 units across Punjab were responsible for probing cases of sexual abuse involving women and children.

Authorities said the restructuring will help streamline investigations, reduce overlaps, and ensure greater accountability in handling sensitive cases.

The government said the changes reflect its commitment to improving law enforcement mechanisms and ensuring timely justice for victims of sexual offences.
